Traveloni is a travel agency located in Chicago, IL. Originally hired through a 3rd party freelancing website for data entry. After 90 days was promoted and hired as Director of Content.

Infrastructure Engineer - Microsoft

I co-ran a team of Tier 2 engineers who were responsible for maintaining the health of a system of over 8500 servers and 6 pedabytes of SAN. This team started with 3 people and quickly expanded to 20 by taking on additional tasks that needed to be done throughout AdCenter which other teams did not have the time to do. For this new team, I created all documentation and implemented many processes in order to make AdCenter compliant with corporate policies and goals.

A breakdown of the roles and responsibilities of my position were:

  • Background technologies learned:

    • Installing, configuring and modifying: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, Windows SQL 2005, Windows SQL 2008, IIS 6.0, IIS 7.0, Windows clustering, Windows SQL clustering

    • Installing SAN software and basic troubleshooting for SAN path failures.

  • Creating and maintaining a structure for asset management of servers which started at 1500 and has now grown to 8500.

  • Creating and maintaining new procedures for standardizing implementation, requests and reports for all of AdCenter.

  • Hiring employees to build out this new team with the desired skill sets ranging from SQL to IIS to infrastructure design and program management.

  • Responsible for maintaining employee schedule according to business needs with a staff of 15 – 20 employees.

  • Identifying costs and determining where we can cut costs for our team.

  • Creating, implementing and maintaining a project to monitor server hardware health using Compaq Insight Manager.

  • Shared 24/7 on-call rotation with my co-leader as the first Tier 2 response for resolving problems quickly.

Aug 2003-March 2007

Lead Service Operations Analyst - Microsoft

Managed a team of support engineers that provided 24/7 support for all MSN groups throughout Microsoft. This lead role was heavily reliant on a thorough understanding of background technologies together with troubleshooting and problem solving skills. The role included future management and baseline standardization of support models. In this leadership role I was responsible for scheduling, training and supervising a team of 5-10 engineers.

A breakdown of the roles and responsibilities of my position were:

  • Background technologies learned:

    • Considered an expert on the propriety tools used by all of MSN with no knowledge of tool beforehand.

    • Learned basic troubleshooting for Windows Server 2000, Windows Server 2003, Windows SQL Server 2005, website failures and IIS failures with no knowledge of these before.

  • Creation of technical and non-technical documents (TSG's) for internal and external customers when changes to procedures occurred for all Windows Server 2000, Windows Server 2003, and Windows SQL server.

  • Monitored front-end and backend IIS/SQL servers for MSN web sites via application monitoring tools, emails, phone calls, and direct requests from customers. Customers included over 300 groups in Microsoft which included over 200,000 servers.

  • Responsible for verifying that all new live content on MSN web sites were being updated properly 24/7 365 days a year.

  • Scored higher in an oral examination in defense of policies and procedures than 100+ members of MSN Tier 1 support 

June 2001-June 2004

Receiving Manager - Barnes & Noble

Implemented corporate policies which were not currently in place at our store in the areas of accounting and loss prevention which enabled our store to increase in standings of corporate compliance. Trained supervisors and staff on how to provide excellent customer service to all who came into the store. Focused on solving customer problems and trained others how to solve customer problems most effectively in order to increase business and promote return customers.

Successes and achievements while at Barnes and Noble

  • Increased sales 30% in one area and 20% in another area in store departments that were under my direct supervision.

  • Developed new scheduling system using Excel in order to better organize the previous system and cut down time used to produce a weekly schedule by 10 hours.

  • Reconstructed the organization of the receiving area in order to optimize the small space for best usage and flow of merchandise to the sales floor

  • Increased Reader’s Advantage sales 150% both by personally selling and motivating staff 

Interests

I have a great many interests and past-times. I love to scuba dive and have been diving in many different bodies of water, including the Arctic Circle. I also love playing board games and am currently setting up a board game cafe in Utila, Honduras. I also love to travel and have been to over 30 countries
